What is a 1031 exchange? A 1031 exchange refers to Section 1031 of the U.S. Internal Revenue code, and it is a provision which allows investment property owners to defer the payment of the capital gains taxes on the sale of their property if the proceeds are re-invested into another like-kind property. A REALTOR® who understands 1031 exchanges could effectively assist his/her clients as they move upward and build their net worth. As a REALTOR®, working with investors provides for lucrative repeat business opportunities.

Topics Discussed:
  • The nuts-and-bolts of a 1031 exchange and what you need to know when representing a client in an exchange
  • Qualifications needed for an exchange
  • How exchanges can benefit your clients and increase your business by getting more listings
